Lithology and Thickness

Coal-free, is distinguished by cyclic sedimentary structure. Each cycle consists of fine-grained sandstones, claystones, clays, carbonaceous rocks, and coal seams. The thickness of the suite is 140-210 m. At the top of the section, there are gravelites and fine-gravel conglomerates.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

The Jurassic deposits lie with a sharp angular unconformity on the Paleozoic rocks

Upper contact

They are overlain discordantly by the Upper Cretaceous.

Regional extent

In the southern part of the Turkestan region, J1+2 deposits are exposed along the rivers Kshut, Zauran, Rivat, Surhat.

The suite can be tentatively dated to the Baikal period based on a depleted complex of plant remains. For schematic stratigraphic representation, it is considered Early-Middle Triassic, based on the subdivisions in the extracted book.
